Therapist for people who are ready to slow down and actually figure out what they want.
Meet Katie Barillas, MS, LPC, NCC
You may have found your way here because something in your life no longer fits the way it used to.
Maybe you're facing a decision you can't seem to untangle. Maybe a relationship has changed. Maybe you're questioning beliefs, expectations, or identities that once felt certain. Maybe you're successful on paper but feel disconnected from yourself underneath it all.
Many of the people I work with are standing at a crossroads. They're deciding whether to stay or leave, speak up or stay quiet, hold on or let go, keep doing what's expected, or start asking what they actually want.
They're often thoughtful, self-aware people who have spent years taking care of others, meeting expectations, and trying to make the "right" choice. At some point, they realize they're no longer sure what they need, what they believe, or what would feel most true to them.
If that's where you are, you're not alone.
I don't believe therapy is about having someone tell you what to do. I believe it's about creating enough space to slow down, get curious, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we'll make sense of what's happening, explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and help you move toward a life that feels more authentic, sustainable, and aligned with who you are becoming.
I'm so glad you're here.
Hey there!
Therapy with me is collaborative. I don't believe my job is to tell you what decisions to make, who to date, whether to stay, leave, forgive, confront, or change your life. My job is to help you understand yourself well enough to make those decisions with confidence.
I take a relational, trauma-informed approach that balances insight with practical change. I also integrate EMDR when it's appropriate, always woven into the larger context of your goals and readiness.
With couples, I work the same way: no scorekeeping, no assigning blame, just helping you both understand the patterns you're stuck in well enough to actually change them.
Above all, I want therapy to feel like a place where you don't have to perform, have the right answer, or figure everything out alone.
My Approach
My Story
Long before I became a therapist, I became fascinated by the question of who we are when the stories we've built our lives around stop making sense.
My own path included leaving the faith tradition I was raised in, navigating the grief and identity shifts that came with that process, and learning how to rebuild trust in myself after years of looking outside myself for answers.
Today, I'm a therapist, EMDR practitioner, mother of four, and someone who still believes that growth often begins when we're willing to ask difficult questions. I don't have all the answers, and I don't think therapy is about finding them. I think it's about becoming more honest, more connected to yourself, and more capable of building a life that reflects who you are now, not who you were told you should be.
Whether you're navigating a major transition, healing from painful experiences, rebuilding after loss, repairing a relationship, or simply trying to figure out what you want, you don't have to do it alone.
